Not in my experience. I sst in a psychodynamic group for three years, and it didn't address the really painful feelings. When I did talk about my level of anxiety and subsequent crippling depression, it was quite clear that the other members of the group had no understanding of the depth of the pain. My revelations were generally met with blankness, or with patronising 'you should just try a bit harder, or have you tried this'. Got tired of it in the end, and with having to listen to people's mundane troubles. I started to switch off in the group and then left. In many respects, I actually found the group process quite damaging. I lost a friend and an income stream because of it too. Back to DIY mindfulness techniques for me now.
